51 Guns Linked to VP Sara Duterte & Husband Revealed in Senate Hearing
SARA DUTERTE – The firearms records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases “Mans” Carpio, were brought to light during Monday’s Senate impeachment hearing.
Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases “Mans” Carpio, have a combined total of 51 firearms registered under their names, according to a Philippine National Police (PNP) official who testified before the Senate impeachment court on Monday.
Maj. Jerickson Sangalang of the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office presented records detailing the firearms registered to the couple. Duterte reportedly has 22 firearms, while Carpio has 29.
Based on Sangalang’s testimony, Duterte’s registered firearms consist of:
- 14 pistols
- Two revolvers
- Five rifles, including three Class A weapons
- One shotgun
Carpio, meanwhile, has the following firearms registered under his name:
- 16 pistols
- Two revolvers
- One shotgun
- 10 rifles, including one Class A weapon
The PNP official also told the impeachment court that one of Carpio’s firearms licenses listed in their records has already expired.
The testimony was presented as the Senate impeachment court proceeded with hearings on allegations involving Vice President Sara Duterte’s purported unexplained wealth. Sangalang was one of the witnesses summoned to testify as the court continued reviewing evidence and statements connected to the allegations against Duterte.
Sangalang also explained the classification of Class A light weapons. These refer to firearms with calibers of up to 7.62 that have automatic or fully automatic capabilities.
A fully automatic firearm is capable of burst fire, meaning several rounds can be discharged with only one pull of the trigger.
“Stated in RA (Republic Act) 10591, Section 10, only law enforcement agencies can acquire Class A light weapons, especially PNP and AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines),” said Sangalang.
“However, for those individuals who have acquired them prior to the effectivity of this law, they can still continue to own their Class A weapon,” he added.
Republic Act No. 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, was signed into law on May 29, 2013.
The firearm records were submitted during the ongoing impeachment proceedings involving Duterte. As part of the hearings, the Senate impeachment court has been reviewing documents and listening to witnesses in relation to the second impeachment article, which raises allegations concerning unexplained wealth as well as the Vice President’s business and financial dealings.
