VP Sara Duterte Issues Message amid Filipinos’ Struggles due to Soaring Oil Prices in PH

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President released a statement amid the soaring oil prices in PH that cause the struggles of many Filipinos now.

The pump prices in the Philippines have increased thrice already since the Middle East war erupted. The conflict rose after the joint airstrikes of the United States and Israel against Iran which killed many Iranians including their Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Following the airstrikes, Tehran placed restrictions in the passage at the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for oil shipments. It allowed international vessels except for those that are linked to their enemies, U.S. and Israel.

U.S. Pres. Donald Trump previously threatened Iran that they will attack their energy facilities if they won’t open the Strait of Hormuz for everyone. However, on the part of Iran, it did not back down on the warning of Trump. Instead, it responded that it may fully close the waterway.

Trump then claimed that the attack against Iran will be postponed following an alleged “very good and productive” talks with the Iranian officials — which Iran denied. The country has repeatedly expressed its close door on reconciliations with U.A.

An official of Iran even previously claimed that they were supposedly talking with the Americans when the attack happened so they don’t see any reason now to talk to U.S. They also previously warned that the world should prepare for oil at $200 a barrel.

The Philippines is one of the countries that is greatly affected by the Middle East war. The government assured that it is doing everything it can to address the rising costs of fuel in the country but Pres. Bongbong Marcos recognized that the oil costs is something that is beyond the control of our country.

The country is highly dependent on imported oil, thus, the series of oil price hikes brought diesel to P140 per liter now. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte issued a statement amid the struggles of countless Filipinos because of the high oil costs in the country.
