Lawyer of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Impeachment Raps
SARA DUTERTE – The camp of the Vice President said she’s ready to face the impeachment complaints filed against her.
Two (2) impeachment complaints were recently filed against Vice Pres. Duterte before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives. The impeachment raps were filed by the Makabayan bloc and the Tindig Pilipinas.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is accused of alleged betrayal of public trust and gross abuse of discretionary powers over the supposed misuse of the P625 million confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd). In the second impeachment rap filed against the Vice President, she is accused of alleged culpable violations of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.
The second impeachment complaint filed against Duterte is endorsed by Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila de Lima and Akbayan party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña. Her camp previously immediately claimed that they are ready to confront the allegations “squarely”.
Recently, Atty. Michael Poa who is part of the defense team of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, claimed that Duterte is ready to face the accusations against her. According to News5, last year, the Vice President was even prepared to go into trial.
“Last year, in fact, siya talaga mismo handang to go into trial. Pero siyempre, bilang mga abogado, we have to point out the infirmities doon sa naging proseso ng initiation ng impeachment complaint. Pero siya mismo, she wanted to go into trial,” Poa said.
Based on the post, the spokesperson of the defense team of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stressed that the Vice President’s disposition over the matter did not change. According to her, the Vice President is ready if the impeachment raps reach the Senate.
“Hindi naman nagbago ang kanyang disposisyon, and she’s ready kung sakaling maiakyat nga ito sa Senado,” the lawyer expressed.
Aside from the Vice President, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is also faced with impeachment complaints. Two (2) impeachment raps were filed against the President and he is accused of allegedly betraying the public trust over several grounds including the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
