Mayor Baste Duterte Attends Senate Hearing of VP Sara Duterte amid the Impeachment Trial
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that she was told by her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, to leave the 2028 National Elections to her brother, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte.
The impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Duterte is ongoing. Previously, the Senate impeachment court had voted to change the voting threshold in convicting Duterte. Several individuals had been invited to attend the impeachment trial of the Vice President.
In fact, one of those who was requested to attend the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was his own younger brother, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte. Several allegations were thrown against the Vice President and her family had always defended her and tagged the accusations as alleged persecution from the people in power.
The Duterte family believes that the government supposedly wants the Vice President out so they can remain in their positions. Amid the political and personal turmoil between the family and Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte has called the Chief Executive many times and even claimed that he will allegedly never be loved by the Filipino people.
This year, four (4) impeachment raps were filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte before the House of Representatives’ Secretary General. Two (2) of the complaints were found substantial in form, substance, and grounds. Here are some of the allegations against the Vice President:
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in committing acts of political destabilization and the high crimes of sedition and insurrection
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously claimed that she is ready to step down from her position although she also recognized that she can help more people through the resources provided by the Office of the Vice President.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, had supposedly asked her to just come home to Davao. Based on News5, the Vice President claimed that their mother told her to just leave the 2028 presidential elections to her younger brother, Mayor Baste Duterte.
“Nagsabi talaga ‘yung nanay ko na pinapauwi niya ako ng Davao at si Baste na lang daw ang patakbuhin sa national elections,” the Vice President said based on the post.
It was in February this year when Vice Pres. Duterte announced her intention to run for the presidency in 2028. Currently, their father remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously expressed her hope that the ICC will consider the age and health of former Pres. Duterte. The former Chief Executive has recently appeared before the ICC court — also the first time that the public had seen him again via television after more than a year.
