Sara Duterte Makes a Strong Push for a Speedy Impeachment Trial
SARA DUTERTE – As questions surrounding her impeachment case continue to circulate, Vice President Sara Duterte is calling for a speedy resolution.
Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday expressed hope that her ongoing impeachment trial would move forward without unnecessary delays, saying a faster process would help address questions surrounding the allegations against her.
“Gusto lang sana namin ay mapabilis ‘yung proseso dahil hindi pwedeng tumatagal yung proseso natin na nag-iisip yung mga tao na ‘Ano ba? Totoo ba na may ginawang masama? Hindi ba totoo ‘yung mga akusasyon?’” Duterte said in an interview in Zamboanga City.

“So dapat mabilis yung proseso kasi nga ‘di ba sa ating Constitution nandiyan yung speedy administration,” she added.
Duterte’s call comes as she faces impeachment proceedings before the Senate, where lawmakers are acting as an impeachment court. The case has continued to attract public interest, particularly because of the allegations and questions surrounding her conduct in office.
The Vice President has also recently cancelled a planned personal trip to Japan, according to information from the Office of the Vice President (OVP). The cancellation was disclosed to members of the media by Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro.
Castro shared with reporters a copy of the letter from the OVP confirming the cancellation. The document was signed by Duterte’s chief of staff, Undersecretary Zuleika Lopez.
Duterte’s legal and political challenges have remained under close public scrutiny since the House of Representatives impeached her more than a year ago. Her case later advanced to the Senate, which formally began the current impeachment proceedings on July 6 after convening as an impeachment court.

The Vice President made history by becoming the first Philippine official to be impeached twice. Her latest proceedings have placed renewed attention on the constitutional process and the allegations being raised against her.
By urging a speedy trial, Duterte emphasized the importance of resolving the case promptly. She said prolonged proceedings could leave the public uncertain about whether the accusations against her are true and whether she committed any wrongdoing.
Her remarks come as the Senate continues its role in determining the outcome of the impeachment case.
