Senate Staff Sent Home Early as Tension Builds Outside the Compound

SENATE – The early dismissal came as security presence around the Senate grounds noticeably increased during the day.

Employees of the Senate were granted permission to leave their workplaces earlier than scheduled on Wednesday, according to Senate Secretary Mark Mendoza, as part of measures intended to maintain order within and around the Senate complex.

Mendoza clarified that the early dismissal was implemented to help ease possible congestion and to prevent any disruptions that could arise in the vicinity of the Senate compound.

He further explained that adjusting working hours was designed to minimize any potential commotion outside the premises while also ensuring smoother movement of individuals and better coordination of security efforts.

The timing of the announcement came amid circulating reports involving Senator Bato dela Rosa, who was reportedly under protective custody inside the Senate and was said to be facing the possible service of a warrant.

At the same time, security measures around the Senate compound were noticeably increased, with an estimated 1,000 police officers deployed to form a barricade at the entrance and restrict access for rally groups attempting to approach the gate.

The strong police presence prevented several protest groups from moving closer to the area, as authorities worked to maintain order and avoid any incidents that could escalate tensions.

Officials stressed that these steps were precautionary in nature and aimed at ensuring the safety of Senate personnel, visitors, and the general public amid the developing situation.

Authorities also said they continued to closely monitor the situation as reports regarding legal developments and security concerns were being verified and assessed.

Meanwhile, Senate leadership reaffirmed its commitment to keeping operations running despite the heightened security environment. Employees were advised to stay alert for official advisories and coordinate with their respective offices regarding schedules and work arrangements for the day. The situation remained fluid throughout Wednesday, with officials balancing the need for public safety and the uninterrupted functioning of legislative duties inside the Senate building. No major disruption to Senate sessions was immediately reported, and assurances were given that proper protocols were in place to respond to any further developments linked to the security situation and related reports involving the senator mentioned earlier.

Further updates are expected as officials continue to assess the situation and release verified information through proper channels in the coming hours, as developments warrant public communication moving forward accordingly.
