Ceiling Collapse At NAIA Leaves Passengers Injured & Sparks Safety Concerns
NAIA – Chaos unfolded at NAIA Terminal 1 when a portion of the ceiling suddenly gave way, catching passengers off guard.
Seven individuals were reported injured after a portion of the ceiling collapsed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Friday, April 3, 2026, raising concerns over passenger safety at one of the country’s busiest gateways.
Initial reports confirmed that a total of seven people sustained injuries due to the incident. Authorities said those affected were immediately given medical attention following the accident, ensuring their conditions were addressed without delay.

In response, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) promptly stated around 2 p.m., announcing that it had directed the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to coordinate with the private operator of NAIA Terminal 1. The move aims to launch a thorough investigation into the unexpected collapse.
“The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has directed the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to closely coordinate with the private operator of NAIA, the New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC), to immediately investigate the incident involving the collapse of a portion of the ceiling at the arrival extension area of Terminal 1 today, April 3,” the agency said.
According to officials, the directive aligns with the orders of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who emphasized prioritizing the safety and welfare of both passengers and airport personnel.
“This follows the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to always prioritize the safety and welfare of both the passengers and employees at the airport,” the statement added.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, also known as Banoy Lopez, wasted no time in instructing concerned agencies to act swiftly.
“Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez has immediately instructed MIAA and NNIC to ensure the safety and security of all passengers and airport personnel, and to submit a detailed report explaining the cause of the incident.”

Despite the alarming situation, the DOTr assured the public that operations at NAIA Terminal 1 remain unaffected. Authorities are continuing to monitor developments closely while awaiting a comprehensive assessment.
“As of this writing, the operations at NAIA Terminal 1 remain normal. The DOTr is closely monitoring the situation and expects a thorough assessment of the incident, including the implementation of necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” the agency concluded.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse and to prevent similar incidents moving forward.
