A 29-year-old man was arrested in Tondo, Manila for his alleged involvement in the gunpoint robbery of a barangay kagawad in Quiapo on the night of October 31.

According to an ABS-CBN News report published at 4:13 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, the suspect was caught on Batangas Street in Tondo on Thursday night after a follow-up operation by operatives of the Barbosa Police Station (MPD Police Station 14).

The victim, a kagawad of Barangay 390, was preparing his vehicle along San Rafael Street at around 8 p.m. so he could travel to Batangas for Undas when riding-in-tandem suspects approached him, a GMA News report said. CCTV footage showed another motorcycle rider who appeared to act as a lookout before the robbery.

The suspects allegedly pointed a gun at the kagawad and grabbed his wallet, necklace and watch, worth up to P200,000 in total. “Wag kang pumalag, puputukan kita. Sabay hablot na,” the victim recalled. (Don’t fight back or I’ll shoot you. Then they grabbed my things.)

The watch and necklace have not been recovered, but the kagawad’s wallet was later found in a river in Parañaque City.

PLtCol. Rexson Layug, station commander of MPD Police Station 14, said police traced the suspect through CCTV back tracking. “Relax na po siya. Akala niya hindi siya na-identify ng ating kapulisan,” Layug said. (He was relaxed. He thought the police had not identified him.)

Police said the suspect has six serious cases in his police record, mostly robbery holdup and homicide. Authorities are also looking into a possible link between his group and the robbery of a Korean national in Parañaque City on the same day.

The suspect denied the allegation, claiming he has CCTV footage proving he was at home and that he will present it in court.

He is now detained at the Barbosa Police Station and faces a robbery case. Police are still hunting his four alleged companions, whose identities have already been determined.
