Teen Girl Believed to Be Dead Shocks Family After Waking Up During Funeral
A 15-year-old teen girl who was reportedly dead suddenly woke up inside her coffin during her funeral in Guatemala.
The teenager, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, reportedly collapsed while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, was driving her to a medical center. Her father, who was also described as an evangelical pastor, stopped the vehicle and checked her breathing and pulse.
Believing he could no longer detect either, he thought his daughter had died.
However, no doctor had confirmed her death, and no official death certificate had been issued. Despite this, the family began preparing for her burial, following local customs that often involve arranging funerals soon after a person’s reported death.
About eight hours after Yuleidy collapsed, relatives and friends gathered for her wake in the rural village of El Jocote. The gathering took an unexpected turn when her mother, Lesvia Ríos, noticed faint movements inside the wooden coffin while mourning over her daughter.
The family opened the coffin and was stunned to see the teenager moving. Yuleidy eventually sat up and began speaking, leaving those around her struggling to understand what had just happened.
Relatives quickly helped her out of the coffin and gave her water. Their sadness soon turned into relief and celebration as they realized she was alive.
Yuleidy later recalled experiencing severe chest pain before losing consciousness. She described feeling as though something heavy was pressing on her chest before she fainted.
The teenager is now conscious and recovering at home. She has also expressed gratitude for surviving the frightening experience.
