Thailand Police Dressed Up us Lion Dancers to Arrest Theft Suspect 

Thailand police disguised as lion dancers to arrest a man accused of stealing valuable Buddhist artifacts worth around $64,000. 

The officers dressed in bright red and yellow lion dance costumes to blend in with the festive crowd during the Lunar New Year celebration. 

The suspect, a 33-year-old man, was wanted for allegedly stealing important religious items from a house in the suburbs of Bangkok during the first week of February 2026.

Reports said the stolen items included several objects related to Buddhism, as well as two 12-inch Buddha statues. Authorities also found signs that the suspect had tried to break into the same house several times before. 

The total value of the stolen items was estimated at around two million baht, or about $64,000. 

With only a few leads to follow, police officers spent weeks watching and gathering information. They later learned that the suspect would be near a Buddhist temple during the Lunar New Year celebration. That was when they decided to carry out their plan. 

The officers joined a lion dance procession near the temple, moving naturally with the performers. As they slowly got closer to the suspect, one officer suddenly stepped out from inside the lion costume.

With the help of other team members, they quickly pinned the suspect to the ground and placed him under arrest.  

Authorities also revealed that the suspect had a previous criminal record related to drug and theft cases.
