Palace Reveals Sara Duterte Has Cancelled Her Planned Japan Travel
SARA DUTERTE – A planned trip to Japan by Vice President Sara Duterte will no longer push through, according to the Office of the Vice President.
Vice President Sara Duterte has cancelled her planned personal trip to Japan, according to information released by the Office of the Vice President and shared with members of the media by Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro.
Castro provided reporters with a copy of the letter from the OVP concerning the cancellation. The document was signed by Duterte’s chief of staff, Undersecretary Zuleika Lopez.

Duterte had been scheduled to travel to Japan for personal matters from August 19 to 24, 2026. According to Castro, the travel authority for the trip was granted on August 17. However, the OVP later notified the Office of the Executive Secretary on Tuesday that the planned trip would no longer push through.
The cancellation comes as Duterte is currently facing an impeachment trial before the Senate. Her legal and political situation has drawn significant public attention since the House of Representatives first impeached her more than a year ago.
Duterte made history as the first Philippine official to be impeached twice. Her current impeachment proceedings formally began on July 6, when the Senate convened as an impeachment court to hear the case against the Vice President.
The proceedings mark a significant development in the political career of Duterte, who has remained at the center of intense public and political scrutiny. Her impeachment case has also become one of the major issues being followed by the country’s political community.

With her Japan trip now cancelled, details surrounding her personal schedule and activities during the period originally allotted for the trip remain unclear. The OVP’s notification to the executive secretary’s office formally confirmed that the previously authorized travel had been called off.
Castro’s disclosure gives the public a clearer account of the status of Duterte’s planned overseas trip as the Vice President continues to face the ongoing impeachment proceedings before the Senate. The development is expected to keep attention focused on her movements and activities while the trial progresses.
