Young Businessman Arrested During Entrapment Operation Over Alleged Involvement in Rent-Tangay Scam

A young businessman was arrested during an entrapment operation at a mall in San Juan City over alleged involvement in a vehicle rental scam.

On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the 23-year-old was arrested in an entrapment operation over his alleged involvement in rent-tangay modus.

According to police, the case began when a victim reported being offered a vehicle worth P400,000 by the suspect. The victim had already paid P220,000 as a partial payment and was supposed to complete the remaining amount during their scheduled meeting.

However, instead of delivering the vehicle they had originally agreed on, the suspect presented a more expensive vehicle, claiming that the first one had already been sold to another buyer.

The suspect then allegedly demanded an additional P170,000 from the victim for the replacement vehicle. It raised the victim’s suspicions, prompting them to report the matter to the police, who immediately arranged an entrapment operation.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that the suspect was allegedly involved in a vehicle rental scheme in which rented vehicles were not returned to their rightful owners. Police also found online records linking the suspect to alleged scams and other questionable transactions.

After the arrest, other individuals reportedly came forward to share their experiences and claim that they had also been victimized by the suspect.

Authorities recovered a multipurpose vehicle, two additional vehicles, two car ignition keys, and P5,000 in cash during the operation.

The Eastern Police District reminded the public to remain careful when buying or renting vehicles. People were advised to check the authenticity of documents, verify vehicle ownership and legal status, and avoid relying solely on verbal promises.

Police also encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious transactions to report them immediately so authorities can take the necessary action.

The suspect is currently under the custody of the San Juan Police and is facing a complaint for estafa, or swindling.
