Authorities Arrest 4 Individuals for Alleged P405k Jewelry Theft from Senior Citizen
Four individuals were arrested for alleged theft of more than P405,000 worth of jewelry taken from a senior citizen.
Police authorities arrested four men in Quezon City after they were linked to the theft of more than P405,000 worth of jewelry taken from a 64-year-old senior citizen in Payatas. The suspects were identified as members of a suspected budol-budol group that used deception to trick their victim.
On May 19, 2026, the group allegedly targeted the elderly woman at her home. Based on police findings, the suspects used a convincing scheme by pretending to be representatives of an LPG safety device company.
They also made the victim believe she had won a raffle prize as part of a supposed company promotion.
The victim recalled that the trouble started months earlier when one of the suspects first visited her home to sell an LPG safety device. Although she had no intention of buying, she eventually agreed out of sympathy and paid for the item.
Months later, the same person returned and introduced the raffle story. He claimed she had won cash and a cooking stove as part of a company anniversary promotion. Even though she felt doubtful, she allowed him inside after he insisted on checking the device she had previously bought.
Once inside the house, the suspect took photos of her identification cards and purchase documents and even asked her to sign papers. He later instructed her to place her jewelry in a container under the guise of safekeeping while the prize was being processed.
The suspect pretended to be on a phone call arranging the delivery of her supposed winnings. Another suspect later arrived and pretended to have a medical emergency, drawing the victim’s attention away from her belongings.
After the suspects left, the victim discovered that her jewelry was gone, including gold necklaces, rings, and a wedding ring worth a total of P405,000.
Police tracked the suspects using CCTV footage and later arrested them in separate operations. One of the stolen necklaces was recovered, but authorities believe other items were already sold.
The suspects are now facing estafa charges while police continue efforts to recover the remaining stolen jewelry and prevent similar scams in the area.
