Several Barangay Tanod Made Improvised Flood Control After Continuous Flooding
Several residents and barangay tanod create an improvised flood control solution after continuous flooding affected in Hagonoy, Bulacan.
Along the roadside near the river entrance, five old bathtubs filled with large rocks were lined up to block the strong flow of water coming from the river. The improvised barrier was placed to lessen the flooding that has been affecting the community since Monday, May 18, until Friday, May 22, 2026.
According to the weekly tide table released by the Hagonoy Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the area experienced high tides reaching up to 4.9 feet on May 19 and 20.

The high tide was also recorded at 4.6 feet on May 18 and 21, while it reached 4.3 feet on Friday.
Barangay Captain Amor Angeles explained that the bathtubs served as shields against the rushing river water that enters the road during high tide. She said the flooding problem has already become a normal situation in their barangay whenever the tide rises.
Because of the floodwater, residents and tricycle drivers have difficulty passing through the road located near the river opening. Due to the lack of immediate solutions, barangay tanods decided to create an alternative flood barrier using available materials to help people continue their daily activities.
The flooding also raised questions after records from the Sumbong sa Pangulo website showed that a flood mitigation project worth more than P77 million had already been assigned for Barangay San Nicolas.
Based on the project list, the flood control structure was supposed to be completed on July 7, 2023.
The same records showed that the contractor for the project was Wawao Builders. The project description stated that the construction involved flood mitigation structures along Barangay San Nicolas in Hagonoy, Bulacan.
The social media users expressed their reactions to the improvised flood control solution:
