Homes in Maasin City Submerged in Floodwaters as Severe Tropical Storm Opong Brings Heavy Rains
Floodwaters entered numerous homes in Barangay Guadalupe, Maasin City, Southern Leyte as Severe Tropical Storm Opong brings heavy rains.
Several homes in Barangay Guadalupe, Maasin City, Southern Leyte, were flooded as non-stop heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Opong poured. The downpour quickly filled low-lying areas, leaving residents scrambling to protect their belongings.
In videos shared online, household items can be seen soaked as water crept into living spaces. Many families admitted they did not expect the rain to bring such flooding since showers earlier in the week seemed manageable.

However, the continuous rainfall late Thursday evening (September 25, 2025) left little time for preparation.
Fearing the waters might rise further, residents immediately moved their appliances, clothes, and other essentials to higher shelves and safer spots. Some made quick adjustments inside their homes while others decided it was safer to leave.

Families, especially those with children and elderly members, chose to evacuate to avoid getting trapped in the rising flood.
Many residents find the situation stressful and regularly monitors the water level, hoping that the rains would stop. Even without strong winds, the unrelenting rain alone was enough to disrupt lives and put people at risk.
Despite the challenges, neighbors extended help to one another. Some offered temporary shelter to those who evacuated, while others assisted in moving items out of harm’s way. The spirit of bayanihan was noticed as the community tried to cope together.

The flooding reminds residents to stay alert and ready during storms. With the rainy season ongoing, families in Southern Leyte and nearby areas are being extra cautious, knowing that heavy rains like these can bring sudden flooding.
