Here’s the response of the ICC to the statement of VP Sara Duterte.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has declined to comment on the claims of VP Sara Duterte, and here’s their statement.
Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday renewed her appeal to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to release her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, on “humanitarian considerations,” stressing that his continued detention under “troubling conditions” was “inhumane.”

Based on a previous article, VP Sara claimed that her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, was found unconscious inside the detention facility of the ICC. FPRRD was found unconscious, and they were made aware of but not given any explanation.
Reportedly, after he was found unconscious on the floor of his room, he underwent laboratory tests. She stressed that her father, being under troubling conditions while in detention, was not just unjust, but inhumane.
She also criticized the ICC for neglecting basic medical needs. According to her, even minor concerns such as an ingrown toenail received delayed responses, while a request for a 24-hour bedside caregiver—given her father’s frail health—was not provided.
In a statement, the ICC reacted to the claims; however, it refused to make any comments that directly addressed the call and the concern. According to the statement, the ICC refused to comment to respect the right to privacy. They do not reveal details regarding the private situation of a detained individual.
The statement came from ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah, and added that it acts in line with the ICC Rome Statute and applicable regulations, observing international standards that provide detainees with access to consular representatives. Moreover, the court also reaffirmed its commitment to taking all appropriate measures to protect both the physical and psychological well-being of detainees.
