Vlogger Faces Criticism After Viral Video Involving Elderly Taho Vendor at Bagasbas Beach In Daet
A vlogger received criticism from netizens after a video circulated on social media showing an elderly taho vendor being included in his content.
The now-deleted video showed the content creator interacting with the elderly vendor, identified as Oscar Asis, a 59-year-old taho seller and father of eight children.
The vlogger handed money to the vendor, leading him to believe that it was being given to him. However, it later became clear that the money was only meant as payment for the taho that had been purchased.
Many viewers expressed disappointment after watching the video, saying that the elderly vendor appeared to have been used as part of prank-style content. Instead of focusing their attention on the vlogger, many people admired the vendor for the way he handled the situation. Despite what happened, he remained calm, respectful, and thankful.
According to Asis, he initially thought the money was being offered to him. He later learned that the interaction had been recorded and uploaded online. What hurt him more was discovering that the video had become a source of entertainment for others.
His son, Harold, said he felt saddened after seeing how his father was portrayed on social media. Wanting to understand the situation fully, he searched for the original video and reviewed the events himself.
Members of the Camarines Norte Police Provincial Office Cyber Response Team explained that cases involving humiliation or intentional ridicule online may be examined under existing laws if there is evidence that a person was deliberately embarrassed or harmed through content posted on social media.
The uploader reportedly reached out to the family to settle the matter. With the help of local barangay officials, both sides met and discussed the incident. The vlogger apologized to the family and agreed to issue a public apology online.
