Rep. Sarah Elago (Gabriela Party-list) criticized the normalization of lewd jokes after female housemates on “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” called out objectifying remarks inside the PBB house that normalizes “birong bastos.”
Elago said the exchange highlights a broader cultural issue and welcomed how some housemates explained why such comments are harmful, calling it a step toward fostering respect.
“We appreciate how some of the housemates expressed why such comments are hurtful. These conversations, though difficult, are important steps toward building a culture of respect,” Elago said in a statement.
“Hindi lahat ng biro ay nakakatawa — lalo na kung may nao-objectify. This is a learning moment not only for those inside the house, but for many watching from their own homes and schools,” she added.
Elago urged “PBB” producers to hold gender-sensitivity seminars for housemates and to create guided discussions that help young audiences understand consent, boundaries and everyday sexism.
The party-list also offered to assist the “PBB” team in integrating stronger gender education into the show.
“Moreover, the reality show must also create guided conversations that help young viewers recognize why comments that objectify women are harmful, even when unintended,” Elago said.
“Gabriela Women’s Party is open to providing assistance should the producers or the PBB team wish to integrate stronger gender education components into the show. Malaking bagay na makita ng publiko na bawal ang bastos sa bahay ni Kuya,” she added.
