Actress Anne Curtis-Smith on Wednesday, December 17, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration over corruption in the Philippines, drawing comparisons to Singapore’s strict anti-corruption policies under founding leader Lee Kuan Yew.
Writing from Singapore, Anne lamented how corruption has stunted the country’s potential despite its natural beauty. She pointed to greed among officials as a major reason the Philippines has struggled to thrive.
Anne highlighted Singapore’s approach of imposing strict penalties on corrupt officials, crediting it for the city-state’s transformation into a highly developed nation with efficient public transport, modern infrastructure, and green urban spaces.
“Paano na tayo Pilipinas? Ano na kaya mangyayari?” she wrote, adding that she hopes Filipinos will one day elect leaders genuinely committed to fighting corruption.
The actress, known for speaking out on governance, social issues, and civic engagement, concluded her post with an emotional appeal for future generations, saying corruption has “stolen the opportunity for this country to reach its full beautiful potential.”
In August, Anne also made headlines for reacting to Jessica Soho’s spiels in the “Kapuso ‘Mo, Jessica Soho” Special Report, which tackled flooding and flood control projects.
