Tropical Cyclone “Basyang” (International name: Penha) washed away homes during the onslaught in the Philippines.

Footage shows a collapsed house toppled into floodwaters during heavy rain in Cawit, Surigao del Sur, on Thursday, February 5.

Onlooker Ariane said there were no occupants inside the structure at the time.

“It’s terrifying. The sea waves were huge, and a house was destroyed,” she said.

More than 2,000 families were evacuated across Visayas and Mindanao. Classes have been suspended in affected areas since Wednesday, February 4.

The Philippine Coast Guard also halted sea travel, leaving at least 130 passengers stranded in Southern Leyte.

Local media reported that at least four people were killed in Cagayan de Oro following a landslide triggered by heavy rain. Officials confirmed the fatalities were members of a single family.

Locally known as Basyang, the tropical storm, which has downgraded into tropical depression on Friday, February 6, has made a landfall over Bohol.

Its center was last located based on all available data in the vicinity of Bilar, Bohol (9.6°North, 124.1°East).
