Legal Consequences Await Those Helping Sen. Bato dela Rosa Avoid Arrest
BATO DELA ROSA – Tension surrounding Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s legal troubles continues to grow after the Department of Justice warned possible supporters against helping him avoid arrest.
Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Fredderick Vida issued a strong warning to individuals who may allegedly be helping Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa avoid authorities, emphasizing that assisting the senator in evading arrest could carry legal consequences.
The statement came after Vida announced to the public on Thursday, May 21, 2026, that the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Dela Rosa is reportedly “enforceable.” Following this development, Vida directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to pursue the senator.

The latest move follows the Supreme Court’s decision on Wednesday, May 20, to deny the petition filed by Dela Rosa’s camp seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) related to the ICC arrest warrant.
During a DOJ press conference on Thursday, Vida appealed to those who may allegedly be aiding Dela Rosa, stressing that helping the senator hide from authorities would not come without consequences.
“Sa akin din pong pakiusap, those who might be aiding or abetting or helping Sen. Bato evade the law, there consequences,” he said.
Vida emphasized that individuals assisting Dela Rosa could face accountability not only under Philippine laws but also under ICC rules.
“Alam natin na sa panuntunan ng rule of law, may pananagutan. Hindi lamang po sa mata ng batas ng Pilipinas, pati rin po sa batas ng ICC,” he stated.

The DOJ chief further explained that since the ICC arrest warrant is allegedly considered valid and enforceable, anyone who interferes with the lawful service of that warrant may also face legal liability.
“Dahil siya’y isang validly issued arrest warrant ng ICC, meron din pong mga panuntunan… Kapag meron kang ginawa para masawata ang maayos at matiwasay na pagsisilbi ng arrest warrant, may pananagutan ka rin,” Vida said.
He concluded his appeal by urging cooperation to bring the matter to a close.
“Kaya nananawagan po tayo. We need a closure on this one,” he added.
Meanwhile, public attention has also focused on CCTV footage released by the PNP on Wednesday, May 20. The footage allegedly showed Dela Rosa and Senator Robin Padilla going to the Senate parking lot in the early hours of May 14, around 2:30 a.m., where authorities claimed the “fugitive” senator was able to evade law enforcement personnel.
