Suspected Thief in Tondo Mobbed by Angry Residents, Faces Multiple Complaints
Tondo residents beat a man suspected of being behind a series of theft incidents before being turned over to authorities.
On Tuesday evening (September 8, 2026), the residents of Barangay 102 in Tondo, Manila, allegedly caught the suspect and confronted him over several reported theft cases in the area.
Officials from neighboring Barangay 105, where the suspect reportedly lives, said they were contacted by Barangay 102 to help verify his identity. After being shown a photo of the man, barangay officials confirmed that they knew him and were familiar with previous complaints linked to him.
“Kilala namin kasi naging pasaway talaga siya. Maraming nagreklamo,” Kagawad Marlene Tumbokon said.
According to local officials and barangay watchmen, the suspect had already gained a reputation in the community because of several reported theft-related incidents. Residents had allegedly filed multiple complaints against him in the past, while barangay personnel claimed that he had previously been involved in cases of theft and snatching.
Prior to his arrest, several CCTV recordings had reportedly captured the suspect during different theft incidents around Tondo. On September 3, 2026, a security camera allegedly showed him carrying away a portable gas stove from a house in Barangay 100.
Another CCTV footage taken during the early hours of September 8 reportedly showed the suspect carrying stolen bananas and shoes in the Tayuman area. Investigators also noted that he appeared to change clothes twice while moving through the neighborhood.
Earlier that same day, authorities were also able to recover a stolen cellphone after the suspect allegedly identified the person to whom he had sold the device.
The suspect refused to comment on the allegations against him. Meanwhile, officials of Barangay 102 also declined to issue a statement regarding the actions of the residents involved in the mobbing.
The suspect is now being held at a police station and is expected to face multiple complaints related to the reported theft cases.
