Banga National High School Shooting Suspect Reportedly Planned Attack Weeks Before Incident
The shooter behind Banga National High School reportedly planned the attack weeks before incident and even told his friends to go home.
The local official revealed that the student believed to be behind the attack at Banga National High School in South Cotabato may have been planning it for several weeks before it happened.
According to Banga Mayor Albert Palencia, the 16-year-old student had reportedly shared his intentions with classmates and friends as early as August.
The authorities suggests that the teenager discussed the planned attack in group chats and had even mentioned carrying it out on an earlier date. However, the plan did not push through at that time.
On September 18, 2026, the day of the incident, the student allegedly told several classmates and friends to leave the school after lunch. Reports indicated that he informed them about what he intended to do later that afternoon.
Those who heard the remarks reportedly did not take them seriously and believed he was only making a joke.
Shortly after lunch, at around 1:15 p.m., gunfire erupted inside the school, turning an ordinary school day into a terrifying experience for students, teachers, and staff. The incident shocked the entire community and left families grieving.
Local officials reported that three people died in the tragedy, including the suspected shooter. Several others were injured and required medical treatment, while some remained hospitalized following the incident.
Authorities are also looking into reports that the student may have been involved in an online community focused on true crime and violent content. Investigators are currently examining whether there is any connection between the group and the shooting.
Officials have reminded parents to ensure that firearms are kept secure and out of the reach of children.
