Taxi Driver Robbed by Passenger in Cubao, Suspect Arrested
A 25-year-old male passenger was arrested after allegedly robbing a taxi driver in Barangay Silangan, Cubao, Quezon City.
According to police, the suspect pretended to be an ordinary passenger and boarded the taxi while the driver was operating near the Philcoa area. The passenger then asked to be taken to Cubao.
However, when they reached their destination, the suspect reportedly pulled out a knife and threatened the driver before taking his earnings. Faced with a weapon, the driver tried to resist but suffered an injury to his hand during the struggle.
After taking the money, the suspect ran away and headed toward the Aurora Boulevard area. The driver immediately sought help. At that time, members of the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit (TMRU) of the Project 4 Police Station were conducting a patrol nearby. The officers heard the victim calling for assistance and quickly responded.
A short pursuit followed, leading to the suspect’s arrest along Illinois Street. Police were also able to recover the knife believed to have been used during the robbery.
Investigators said the driver lost around P1,500, which represented his earnings. However, the stolen cash was not recovered. Authorities believe the money may have been discarded or dropped while the suspect was fleeing, although its exact whereabouts remain unknown.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly had previous cases involving illegal drugs, carnapping, and illegal gambling.
Police reminded taxi drivers and other public transport operators to stay alert, especially during late-night and early-morning trips. Authorities encouraged drivers to prioritize their safety, watch for suspicious behavior, and seek help from nearby police officers or stations whenever they feel threatened.
The suspect is currently being held at the custodial facility of the Project 4 Police Station and is facing a robbery complaint.
