Kim Chiu’s sister, Lakam Chiu, gets her bail reduced to Php 5.6 million as the qualified theft case involving 124 counts continues in court.
The legal case involving actress and television host Kim Chiu’s older sister, Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu, has reached another development after a Quezon City court granted a request to lower her bail.
To recall, Lakam was arrested in connection with a qualified theft case filed against her by the ABS-CBN actress. The most recent decision comes as the qualified theft case involving the siblings continues to draw public attention.
Based on a previous article, Lakam sought to lower her bail, and this motion was granted by a Quezon City court.
Lakambini’s bail was reduced to Php 5.6 million after the court partially granted her camp’s motion for a lower amount. The original bail was set at approximately Php 5.8 million. The motion was filed in hopes that she could exercise her right to temporary freedom while the proceedings continue.
Atty. Dominic Solis, Chiu’s lawyer, said the court lowered her bail to Php 5.6 million. The court also allowed her to post a cash bond, which would cut the amount by 50% to around Php 2.9 million.
“Nabawasan po ng P200,000. Tapos pinayagan po na makapag-post ng cash bond at ire-reduce by 50 percent ‘yong P5.6 million na lang siya from P5.8 kung cash bond; pero kung surety, it will still be pegged at P5.6 million,” Solis told ABS-CBN News.
Chiu is facing 124 counts of qualified theft with Php 44.4 million in alleged financial discrepancies in the distributor company involved in the complaint. After being arrested at a condominium parking area in Mandaluyong City on Sunday, she has since been detained at the Kamuning Police Station’s custodial facility in Quezon City.
