LTO Looks for Tricycle Drivers Spotted Racing Along Marcos Highway in Marikina City
LTO is now searching for several tricycle drivers who were allegedly involved in street racing along Marcos Highway in Marikina City.
On Sunday morning, September 27, 2026, several tricycle drivers were seen racing in Marikina City. The issue gained attention after a dash cam video circulated on social media. The video showed seven tricycles speeding down the highway shortly after traffic started moving from a stoplight at around 2:00 a.m.
In the video, the tricycles could be seen accelerating at high speed while producing loud engine noise. At one point, one of the vehicles nearly tipped over while attempting to overtake another tricycle.
According to the person who uploaded the footage, the group appeared to be racing for about two minutes while heading toward Quezon City.
The uploader also shared that several motorists had to avoid the speeding tricycles because of their reckless behavior on the road. Some motorcycle riders were likewise forced to move away to prevent a possible accident. Fortunately, no crash was reported during the incident.
The viral video eventually reached the LTO, which immediately conducted an initial review. Based on its assessment, officials believe the tricycles may have been involved in drag racing. Authorities also noted that the vehicles appeared to have illegal modifications, including removed roofs and altered seating, which are prohibited under transportation regulations.
Another concern raised by authorities was the apparent absence of visible body numbers and license plates on the tricycles. One vehicle was also seen with a damaged rear section, while another carried a sign that drew attention online.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao has ordered enforcement teams to identify and locate the drivers involved. The agency also plans to conduct operations not only along Marcos Highway but in other areas where similar activities may be taking place.
The drivers could face traffic violations, possible suspension of their licenses, and the impounding of their tricycles. The agency said it remains committed to holding violators accountable and improving road safety for all motorists.
