Gun & Pocket Knife Found in Grade 3 Pupil’s Bag at Misamis Oriental School
A gun and a pocket knife were recovered inside the bag of a Grade 3 pupil at a school in Opol, Misamis Oriental.
On Wednesday afternoon, October 21, 2026, students and teachers were alarmed after a gun and a pocket knife were found inside the bag of a Grade 3 pupil at a school. The incident happened at around 1 p.m. while classes were ongoing.
School security guard Marlane Daniel said the incident came to light when a pocket knife accidentally fell out of the young pupil’s bag. After noticing the sharp object, school personnel checked the bag more closely and discovered a .22-caliber firearm with five bullets inside.
The discovery shocked those who witnessed the incident, especially because the pupil was still in Grade 3 and was carrying dangerous items inside a place meant to be safe for children.
During the initial inquiry, the pupil reportedly said that the gun had been placed in the bag by an older sibling who was also a student at the school, studying in Grade 4. However, authorities have yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the claim.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility that the bag was passed over the school fence to avoid the security checks at the entrance. Bags are reportedly inspected by school guards before students are allowed to enter the premises.
Despite the security measures in place, the incident has raised questions about how the firearm and knife reached the classroom area without being detected earlier.
Following the discovery, the Grade 3 pupil was referred to social workers for proper intervention and assistance. Authorities are expected to consider the child’s age and circumstances as they determine the appropriate steps to take.
Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation to establish who owns the firearm and how it came into the pupil’s possession.
