Gas Station Attendant Receives Suspected Fake P1,000 Bill From Customer

A 23-year-old gas station attendant in Kalibo, Aklan, reportedly received a suspected fake P1,000 bill from a customer.

On Thursday evening (October 22, 2026), the gas station attendant became suspicious after inspecting the P1,000 bill handed to him by a male motorcycle rider. He reportedly questioned the authenticity of the money after noticing something unusual about the banknote.

Despite the concern, no argument broke out between the two. Instead, the customer paid another P1,000 bill to settle his transaction.

The attendant kept the suspected counterfeit money because he intended to report it to his manager. However, before he could do so, the customer had already reported the incident to the landlord of the place where he was renting and sought assistance from authorities.

The customer denied knowingly using fake money. He explained that the bill had only become wet and that it was part of the allowance given to him by his mother.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the money was actually counterfeit or simply appeared suspicious because of its condition.

The disputed P1,000 bill is currently under the custody of the Kalibo Municipal Police Station. It will undergo the necessary examination to establish its authenticity and determine what action, if any, should be taken.

For now, no final conclusion has been reached regarding the money or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident reminds workers and business owners to carefully inspect banknotes, especially when handling cash transactions. However, unusual marks or changes in a bill’s appearance do not automatically mean it is fake.

Authorities are expected to rely on the results of the examination before making further decisions about the incident. Until then, the customer’s explanation and the attendant’s suspicion remain subject to verification.

Authorities are now set to examine the money to determine whether it is genuine or counterfeit.
