Ashtine Olviga and David Licauco Shrug Off Love Team Rivalry as “Fight for My Way” Nears Premiere

Ashtine Olviga and David Licauco said they do not look at other popular love teams as rivals as they get ready for their first lead series together, the Philippine adaptation of the Korean hit “Fight for My Way.” The two talked about it during the show’s grand media conference, as reported by INQUIRER.net.

Both stars were previously paired with other screen partners. Ashtine was known for her tandem with Andres Muhlach, while David was paired for years with Barbie Forteza.

“Ako po, I really don’t compete with anyone and happy po ako sa success ng nakukuha ng ibang mga kasamahan namin sa Viva,” Ashtine said. She added that she believes every artist has a path meant for them, and she has her own.

David agreed with his new leading lady and gave credit to the streaming platform behind their series. “I agree with what she said na ‘yung Viva One, ang galing nilang magpasikat ng mga artista,” he said, adding that he sees the company’s leadership as solid, which is why its artists get good platforms and good shows.

The actress was also asked about negative comments and toxic fans. Instead of fighting back, she said she tries to understand them, thinking they may have gone through something painful. Still, she made it clear that she does not encourage that kind of behavior, and she urged people to be kinder and offer encouragement instead of pulling others down.

“Fight for My Way” is Viva One’s first-ever adaptation of a Korean series. The original 2017 drama starred Park Seo Jun and Kim Ji Won. In the local version, David plays Hanz and Ashtine plays Aira, two longtime best friends, according to ABS-CBN News. The official teaser, released last week, showed the pair’s friends-to-lovers story, as GMA News reported.

McCoy de Leon and Aubrey Caraan complete the main cast, and the series is directed by Crisanto B. Aquino, who said the adaptation will show Filipino culture, food and the beauty of Metro Manila. The series is set to premiere on Viva One on November 20.

For Ashtine and David, the focus seems to be on their own story, not on who else is trending.
