Teenage Son Confesses to Killing His Teacher Mother With a Hammer in Panglao, Bohol

A 15-year-old boy has admitted to killing his 46-year-old mother, a teacher, with a hammer and hiding her body inside an abandoned septic tank in Panglao, Bohol, police said.

Police Major Joseph Lopena, spokesperson of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), said the teenager confessed after Panglao police reached out to him, INQUIRER.net reported on Monday, November 2. The boy allegedly attacked his mother after she scolded him for cutting classes, and their argument turned physical.

“Ginamitan niya ng martilyo at hinataw nang apat na beses,” the Panglao Police Station said in a statement quoted by ABS-CBN News. (He used a hammer and struck her four times.)

Investigators said the boy then dragged his mother’s body about 30 meters from their house, dumped it inside the old septic tank and covered it with stones. He later told police that he hid the hammer under the kitchen sink, where it was recovered. According to the police, only the mother and son were living in the house.

The body was found at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, after a neighbor and a relative noticed blowflies around the septic tank in Barangay Looc. The municipal health officer initially estimated that the victim died between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. that day, with traumatic injuries noted on her head.

At first, the teenager reportedly told investigators that his mother left their home at around 9 p.m. on October 30 to go to Tagbilaran City and that she had not come back when he left for school the next morning. Before the case was solved, Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado had raised the reward for information on the killing to P150,000, INQUIRER.net earlier reported.

Lopena said the boy was reportedly a good student and an athlete with no known vices. As a minor, he is considered a child in conflict with the law and has been turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for intervention.
