M/B Rose Marie 1 Partially Submerges Near Dalupiri Island; Coast Guard Brings All 8 Crew Members to Safety

Eight crew members, including the boat captain, were rescued after their cargo boat partially sank off Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Coast Guard Station (CGS) Calayan sent rescue teams to the motorized banca M/B Rose Marie 1 after it was reported half-submerged in the waters near the island, as reported by GMA News. The boat reportedly had engine trouble and took in water, Inquirer reported.

Five crew members were first brought to the shoreline of Barangay Magsidel and then taken to the Calayan Rural Health Unit for a medical check-up. A second team aboard the M/B Lagadan 1 picked up the remaining three crew members.

One of the rescued crew members suffered a wound on his right knee, while others were checked for suspected hypertension, the PCG said, according to DZRH News. All eight received medical assistance after the incident.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Cauayan, Coast Guard District Northeastern Luzon information officer ENS. Dionisio Mahilum Jr. said the boat was carrying livestock products that were supposed to be delivered from Calayan to Claveria. Rescuers tried to tow the vessel using other boats, but the heavy cargo made it difficult.

The partially submerged boat was left near Dalupiri Island. A local disaster response staff member said responders would return on Sunday, November 1, to try towing it again.

Despite the incident, the Coast Guard has not imposed a no-sail policy in the area, saying wave heights remain at safe levels. The PCG continues to monitor sea travelers in its area of responsibility amid the Undas break.
