A barangay captain elicits various reactions online after reacting to the postponement of the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Brenda Pagapang-Fernandez of Barangay Libas became the subject of an online post after her video showing her reaction to the election development circulated on social media. The video drew attention because of her plans to continue serving her community and finish several projects.
The 2026 Barangay and SK elections had been scheduled for November 2, 2026 under the election calendar issued by the Commission on Elections.
In her explanation, Pagapang-Fernandez said she felt happy because the extension would give her more time to work on projects for her barangay. She shared that there were still several plans she wanted to complete before leaving office.
Among her goals were installing solar lights around the barangay, improving their daycare center, and completing other community projects. She also mentioned her desire to bring back a rescue vehicle for their barangay, which she said would be useful not only for residents but also for nearby communities that might need emergency assistance.
For her, having more time in office means another opportunity to serve residents and turn these plans into reality. She also hoped that the additional time would allow her to show the community the kind of service she wanted to provide.
Pagapang-Fernandez encouraged fellow barangay officials to make good use of the extended period and continue serving their constituents properly. She stressed the importance of leaving behind useful projects and maintaining good service throughout their time in office.
The election postponement has given current barangay and SK officials additional time in their terms under the law. Republic Act No. 12232 moved the next Barangay and SK elections to the first Monday of November 2026 and set a four-year term for elected barangay and SK officials.
