Female College Student Loses Her Life After Being Hit by Counterflowing Ambulance
A female college student died after the motorcycle she was riding was hit by a counterflowing ambulance in Cebu City.
On Tuesday afternoon (April 14, 2026), an 18-year-old college student died in a vehicular accident after being hit by an ambulance that reportedly counterflowed along the road.
Based on the police investigation, the victim was riding as a passenger with her 19-year-old male classmate. They were traveling along the Archbishop Reyes Avenue Flyover in Barangay Luz at the time of the incident.

Both of them were mechanical engineering students, on what seemed like a normal day before it suddenly turned into a heartbreaking event.
Authorities said an ambulance, which was in a hurry, suddenly moved into the opposite lane to counterflow. It then collided with the motorcycle carrying the two students. The strong impact caused the female passenger to be thrown off, leading to her immediate death.
The ambulance involved was later identified as belonging to the Barangay Apas Emergency Response Team. Meanwhile, the motorcycle driver, who is the victim’s classmate, survived but sustained serious injuries. He is currently in critical condition and continues to receive medical care.
The university where the victims were studying expressed their grief and asked for prayers for the victim, her family, and the injured student who is still fighting for his life.
A road safety group also shared its concern, reminding everyone that safety rules should always be followed, even by emergency vehicles. While ambulances are expected to respond quickly, discipline and caution on the road remain very important.
The ambulance driver is now under police custody as the investigation continues. He may face charges related to reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury, and damage to property.
