DepEd Launches Probes Against Teacher Over Alleged Punishment Involving Contaminated Soft Drinks
The Department of Education (DepEd) is investigating a teacher in Mapandan, Pangasinan, who allegedly forced two students to drink soft drinks contaminated with saliva.
According to the father of one of the students, the incident began when a classmate asked the two children to share their soft drinks. The students reportedly admitted that they had spat into the drink before giving it to their classmate.
When the teacher learned what the students had done, the teacher became angry and allegedly made them drink the contaminated beverage as punishment.
The school principal also revealed that the students had reportedly urinated into the soft drinks they gave to their classmate. This was said to be another reason the teacher became upset over their actions.
Despite what happened, the father of one of the students later forgave the teacher after learning that his child had also done something wrong. However, the incident has still raised concerns about the appropriate way to discipline students inside the classroom.
The incident has reached the Department of Education Region 1, which is now investigating the incident with the help of the local government.
Both students have undergone medical checkups to ensure their well-being following the incident. The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office have also visited the children to provide counseling and emotional support.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary Sonny Angara assured the public that the teacher would be given due process and would undergo the proper disciplinary procedures.
