CJ Ramos Says Driving for a Ride-Hailing App Gave Him a Chance to Start Over

Former child actor CJ Ramos, remembered by many Filipinos for “Tanging Yaman” and “Ang TV,” has been earning a living as a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) driver for about a year now. He said the job has become a practical way to support his family, Philstar.com reported on Saturday, November 7.

Acting roles became scarce for Ramos after his ’90s projects such as “Okay Ka, Fairy Ko!” and “Ang TV: The Adarna Adventure.” He later made scattered appearances in “Maalala Mo Kaya” and a short comeback in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” but his main source of income today is driving every day for the platform inDrive.

“Malaking bagay sa akin yung pagmamaneho kasi binigyan ako nito ng pagkakataong magsimula ulit,” Ramos said in a statement. He added that it feels good not to worry all the time about paying the bills, and that he can now do more to give his family a better life.

Ramos also recalled the time he helped a nun get to a hospital during a medical emergency, a moment that made him see that a driver’s work is about more than earning money. He has been sharing his experiences on the road, along with the lessons he has picked up, through his vlogs.

inDrive Country Driver Operation Lead Vanessa Taqueban praised his story and said every driver has a journey worth hearing. “There are people behind the wheel who are working toward something,” she said.

The former actor has been open about his difficult past. In an interview on Toni Gonzaga’s YouTube channel last year, he said he sold his car to settle obligations and got a new unit on installment so he could start driving, after work dried up following the end of “Ang Probinsyano,” KAMI reported. It was his partner Diane and some friends who encouraged him to post his journey online, which opened a new path for him as a content creator.

He described this chapter as the happiest of his life because of his family and the stable job he believes God gave him.

For CJ Ramos, success no longer means being on screen, but having peace of mind and being able to provide for the people he loves.
