OP Budget Proposal for 2027 Includes Confidential, Intelligence Funds
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES – The Appropriations Committee approved the budget proposal of the Office of President Bongbong Marcos for 2027.
The budget request of the Office of the President for next year has been revealed. Marcos Jr.’s office is seeking for a P10.1 billion budget for 2027. It is inclusive of confidential and intelligence funds.
The budget proposal of the office of Pres. Bongbong Marcos includes a P4.55 confidential and intel funds — specifically P2.25 billion in confidential funds and the P2.3 billion in intel funds.
Undeniably, the said proposal of the Office of the President gained criticisms and questioning from many Filipinos. Meanwhile, for the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives, the panel acted in lieu of the “institutional and inter-branch courtesy”.
Based on a report of News5, House Committee on Appropriations had voted on giving the Office of the President the “institutional and inter-branch courtesy” with regard to its P10.1 billion proposed budget for 2027. The members of the committee approved it with a 37-5 voting.
Based on the post, with the House panel giving “institutional and inter-branch courtesy” to the proposed budget of the office of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the interpellation on its proposed budget for next year was terminated. The committee proceeded with approving the proposal of the OP.
In his presentation. Executive Secretary Ralph Recto stressed that the P10.1 billion budget that Marcos Jr. office’s is seeking for 2027 is the lowest it has proposed compared to the previous years. He also noted the “unmodified opinion” that the President’s Office got from the Commission on Audit for the fiscal year 2025.
For 2026, the Office of the President got the biggest slice of the confidential and intel funds. Undeniably, the said type of funds has gained a negative impression amid the accusations against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte on her alleged misuse of the funds.
Recently, amid the questions and the criticisms, Executive Sec. Ralph Recto defended the request of the Marcos Jr. office for confidential and intelligence funds.
