This is what Senator Joel Villanueva said after being dragged into the issue.

A former official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) tagged Senator Joel Villanueva, and here’s his statement about it.

Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan assistant district engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez and his assistant, JP Mendoza, shared proof that dragged senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada into the anomalies in the flood control projects.

There were photos and screenshots of conversations that had been shown to prove their involvement. During the House Infra committee hearing on Tuesday, September 9, the following were discussed:

  • alleged SMS and Viber conversations between Villanueva and Alcantara
  • Estrada and Alcantara posing together in public events
  • bundles of money allegedly intended for politicians

After Villanueva was tagged, he issued a statement immediately to clear his name.

According to him, he did not receive any kickbacks from flood control projects in his province. He said during a Senate session, “Wala po ako kailanman naging flood control project. Hindi ko po sasabihin na ‘I categorically deny this accusation’ dahil po may resibo po tayo. Meron pong pwedeng iberipika bakit po ito nangyayari.”

He then firmly expressed that he will never betray his principles and will not tarnish the name his parents have given him. He even presented a video of him questioning the failed flood control projects in Bulacan two years ago.

“Alam ko po kung bakit lumabas ang pangalan ko. Kahapon po, may hawak po akong mga affidavits ng mga taga-DPWH sa Bulacan. Pinakita ko po sa kanila at sabi ko ibi-biring up ko po sa committee ni Sen. Marcoleta,” he said.

Villanueva assured that he will cooperate in the investigation and reveal everything he knows, without sparing anyone.
