Statement of Malacañang on Claims of Cong. Sandro Marcos

Malacañang reacted to the claim of Congressman Sandro Marcos against the Duterte administration when his father, President Bongbong Marcos, allegedly sought their support for the 2022 Elections.

The political gap between the Marcoses and the Dutertes is undeniably evident. The Filipino people started noticing it when Vice Pres. Sara Duterte resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) in 2024. She also left the Marcos Jr. Cabinet.

In 2025, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was arrested and his custody was immediately transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. The said unexpected turn of events that transpired in March 11 of that year earned Pres. Bongbong Marcos and the government criticisms from the Duterte supporters.

As for Marcos Jr., the issue was already existing when he was still not yet in the picture. Malacañang defended the President and stressed that the government only did its job in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

The Duterte siblings slammed Marcos Jr. for the arrest of their patriarch. Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte and Davao Mayor Baste Duterte recalled multiple times that it was the former President who allowed the burial of the late former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. at the Heroes’ cemetery.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte believes that the Marcos Jr. allegedly committed an impeachable offense in the arrest and the transfer of the custody of their father. The former President remains detained under the custody of the ICC for a year now.

According to him, allegedly part of the condition was that they get to choose who will be in the key positions in the government.

“Hindi ko na lang babanggitin kung sino. We were put in front of three (3) people… There was one person who is a sitting official now at sinabi niya kay Pangulo, ‘Sige suportahan ka namin on the condition that kami ‘yung mamimili ng ES, kami mamimili ng speaker, kami mamimili ng Senate president… Marami silang hiniling,” the Ilocos Norte Congressman further said.
