Man Dies of Electrocution After Allegedly Trying to Steal Power Cables
A 32-year-old man lost his life due to electrocution after allegedly trying to steal electric wire from a power line in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City.
On Monday morning (April 6, 2026), Quezon City residents first noticed the man suspended from the electric line at around 7:45 a.m. Barangay officials immediately responded and later confirmed that the man had already died.
According to local officials, it is still unclear how the man managed to climb up to the power lines. His wife reportedly told authorities that they had dinner together the night before. Before leaving, he allegedly told her that he would be going out on his motorcycle.
A resident living near the electric post shared that they noticed something unusual on the roof of their house on Sunday night (April 5). At first, they thought it was only rats moving around because that often happened in the area.
Later in the evening, the resident’s wife noticed a burning smell coming from outside. She checked the electrical outlets inside the house but found nothing wrong. Since they could not find the source of the smell, they went back to sleep.
The next morning, they learned that the smell may have come from the man after he was electrocuted.
Barangay officials said the man had allegedly been involved in several theft incidents in the area in the past. According to records, he had previously been linked to stolen cellphones and electric wires. Last month, authorities reportedly recovered a sack of wires connected to him.
Officials said he had already been warned before and had signed an agreement promising not to repeat the act. Despite this, they believe he may have returned to steal wires again.
Authorities are still investigating the incident to determine exactly what happened. Meanwhile, the man’s family has chosen not to speak publicly about the case.
