Sen. Migz Zubiri Speaks on Current Senate Duties’ Full Schedule
MIGZ ZUBIRI – The Senate Majority Leader admitted his extreme exhaustion on his “12-hour” senate duty amid the ongoing impeachment trial.
Out of four (4) impeachment complaints that were filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte this year, two (2) of them made it to be declared as substantial in form, substance, and grounds by the House of Representatives’ justice panel. The Articles of Impeachment were submitted to the Senate and a trial is now ongoing.
Several grounds were raised against the Vice President in the impeachment complaints filed against her before the House of Representatives’ Office of the Secretary General. Here are some of those grounds:
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in committing acts of political destabilization and the high crimes of sedition and insurrection
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has yet to attend the impeachment trial at least once. She also previously expressed her belief that her attendance to the trial will not help the process. With the ongoing the trial, the senators are not only lawmakers now but as well as senator-judges in the impeachment trial.
Recently, there are reports that the Senate Impeachment Court led by Sen. Chiz Escudero might implement a new schedule on the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. It is in consideration of the committee hearings for the 2027 proposed budget.
Amid juggling several roles now, as per News5, Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri admitted his extreme exhaustion from his legislative duties and from being a senator-judge in the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte
“Sa totoo lang… pagod na pagod na ako. 12-hour days po tayo dito. From 9 to 9, nandito po tayo,” Zubiri said.
Based on the post, Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri also said that they might not have a break in October. Meanwhile, he clarified that he is willing to work 24/7.
“We might not have an October break, which is okay. We’re willing to work 24/7 naman for the people,” the Senate Minority Leader said.
Amid the impeachment process, the office of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has unveiled its budget request for 2027.
