Pangasinan School Bans Use of Explicit Words Within Its Premises

A school in Pangasinan has prohibited students from using the viral term esmiringhoy and other related words within its premises and during official school activities.

The Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) of Bani East Integrated School announced the new reminder through a Facebook post, listing several prohibited terms, including esmiringhoy, jerjer, espekikay, esmeringer, and bembang.

According to the student organization, the initiative aims to promote respectful communication, proper behavior, inclusivity, and mindful use of language among students. It also reminded learners that just because a word is trending online does not mean it is appropriate to use, especially in an educational setting.

The prohibition covers school premises, official school activities, and online platforms connected to the school. The SSLG also stressed that these words should not be treated as jokes because they are considered inappropriate in the learning environment.

Under Rule No. 9 of the school’s handbook, the use of such terms may also fall under harassment, particularly when directed at fellow students or school personnel. The rule prohibits threats, intimidation, discriminatory remarks, and abusive behavior.

Students who violate the policy will face corresponding interventions. First-time offenders will receive counseling and a verbal warning. A second offense will result in a written warning and a meeting with their parents, adviser, and guidance counselor.

Those who commit a third offense will be referred to the principal’s office for further disciplinary action.

The word “esmiringhoy” previously gained attention on social media after Evelyn Batuigas mentioned it during an episode of Raffy Tulfo in Action. She used the term while sharing her story about how she tried to win her husband’s affection before their eventual separation.

The word later became popular online as a euphemism for sexual activity, with netizens using it in jokes and social media posts.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the announcement:
