Peng Yu is rejoining international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges from Kirkland & Ellis.

Yu will rejoin the firm as a partner in Weil’s global private equity group and will be based in the firm’s Hong Kong office. Yu started his career at Weil in the Hong Kong office and is the eighteenth partner to return to the firm since the beginning of 2023.

He has been at Kirkland & Ellis as a partner since March 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Yu focuses on private equity matters and mergers and acquisitions. He has experience advising global and regional private equity (PE) and corporate clients on a range of transactions, including buyouts, take-privates, PIPEs, growth capital investments, divestitures, joint ventures and other cross-border transactions, particularly those with a China nexus.

The firm’s Hong Kong office, based in Alexandra House, Central, advises clients on matters across Asia Pacific — including mainland China, India, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

“We are thrilled to welcome Peng back home to Weil as we continue to expand our market-leading global private equity practice,” said Weil executive partner Barry Wolf.

“His deep experience advising on high-stakes, mission-critical transactions will be an immediate asset to clients in Asia and globally.”

“Peng is widely recognised as a top PE lawyer with broad expertise in the China market, in particular,” said Gary Holtzer, the partner on Weil’s management committee overseeing Asia strategy.

New York-based Holtzer added: “His arrival reinforces our strong track record for delivering top-tier service to our sophisticated global clients.”
