Hospital Room for Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Shared by Philippine National Police
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has shared photos of a hospital room prepared for Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The agency has prepared a secured room inside the PNP General Hospital for former House Speaker Martin Romualdez as authorities consider transferring him from his current detention facility.
Romualdez is currently under government custody and is classified as a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL). According to the PNP, the room was readied to ensure that all security, medical, and custodial requirements are properly in place if the transfer is approved.
The designated room is located within the PNP General Hospital and is designed to accommodate detainees who may require medical attention while remaining under strict supervision.
Although the room is air-conditioned, it also has security bars and other measures to ensure that it remains a secure detention area.
Authorities explained that the facility is intended to balance the health needs of detainees with the responsibility of maintaining proper custody. The PNP emphasized that the room was prepared in accordance with existing procedures for PDLs who may need specialized medical care.
The planned transfer comes as legal discussions continue regarding Romualdez’s detention conditions. The Sandiganbayan is scheduled to hear a request from his legal team seeking hospital arrest due to concerns about his health.
At the same time, the PNP is expected to present its own motion requesting that he be transferred to the PNP General Hospital instead.
Police officials clarified that any transfer would depend on the court’s decision and the evaluation of Romualdez’s medical condition. They stressed that the move will only proceed if the court determines that his health situation requires placement in a medical facility rather than continued detention at the Quezon City Jail.
As of this writing, the prepared hospital room remains on standby while the court decides on the next step in Romualdez’s detention arrangement.
