Easter Sunday Statement of Pope Leo Mentions Peace & War
Pope Leo XIV urged the world leaders to end the war and turn their back from any pursuit for power amid the conflict in the Middle East.
The war in the Middle East is ongoing and it is now affecting several other countries which are not directly involved in the conflict. None among the United States, Iran, and Israel which are directly engaged in the war showed signs of surrender.
The conflict in the Middle East transpired after U.S. and Israel launched joint airstrikes against Iran which killed many Iranians including its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran vowed to avenge the deaths of its officials and its people.
U.S. Pres. Donald Trump justified the attack saying that he prevented Iran from allegedly destroying the world. He is against the Iranians acquiring nuclear power. The American President wants Iran to agree not to have nuclear power.
Following the attack, Tehran imposed restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz. It banned vessels linked to U.S. and Israel. The waterway is a vital passage for global oil shipments. Several other countries now are suffering from high oil costs due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Pope Leo XIV previously called for ceasefire among the countries involved in the Middle East war. The Roman Pontiff of the Catholic Church called for dialogue among the countries involved in the war.
“In the name of the Christians of the Middle East and of all women and men of goodwill, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: Cease fire! Let the paths of dialogue be reopened,” he said.
However, U.S. Pres. Donald Trump was quick to respond to the call of Pope Leo XIV saying that they are not looking into a “ceasefire”. The American President has issued several stern warnings against Iran as it forced the Iranian officials to open the Strait of Hormuz.
Recently, based on a post on News5, Pope Leo XIV, in his Easter Sunday message, once again urged the national leaders to end war and turn their back from pursuing power.
“Let those who have weapons lay them down! Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace! Not peace imposed by force with a desire to dominate, but through dialogue!” the Pope said.
Pope Leo XIV called on the people to pray to the Lord for peace based on the post. None of the contries involved in the war in the Middle East has responded to the call of the Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Chuch.
“Let us abandon every desire for conflict, domination, and power, and implore the Lord to grant his peace to a world ravaged by wars,” he said.
However, amid the Pope calling for peace and an end to war, U.S. Pres. Donald Trump has recently warned Iran that it will blow up their power plants and bridges if they won’t open the Strait of Hormuz.
