Senator Robin Padilla claims that during the leadership of former President Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippines was the safest.
“Nakakatakot kapag ang nag-iisang Diyos na ang gumanti… You are crucifying an 80-year-old man, you denied him the house arrest that the Filipinos are demanding,” Senator Robin Padilla previously said on his continued fight against the International Criminal Court (ICC) to send former President Rodrigo Duterte home.
In a previous article, the foreign court ICC upheld the detention of Duterte, the former chief executive, despite the arguments presented by Duterte’s team.
As a loyal supporter, Padilla continues to encourage people to speak against this decision and is still moving and vocal to send him home.
Padilla said the detention of Duterte abroad has elevated his image among many Filipinos and may influence how he will be remembered in history.
The senator noted that the situation Duterte is facing is rare for a former head of state, adding that the experience has placed him in a different category despite the criticisms and opposition surrounding his past policies. Padilla also pointed out that the fact that Duterte is undergoing trial in a foreign court has already shaped public perception and could affect how future generations view him.
Recalling the country’s state under his leadership, Padilla claimed that the Philippines was at its safest during his time. As per his words, this was something people could not deny.
“Kahit anong isyu natin kay Digong, usyuhin niyo na lahat, pero pagdating doon sa safe tayo noong panahon niya, walang kokontra,” he said, and he added that the country’s safety standards can even keep pace with those of other nations.
He cited Davao City, which he said became more organized when Duterte took the reins as mayor, noting that a place once marked by disorder improved under his leadership.
