Cong. Sandro Marcos Speaks on Alleged Conditions of Duterte Admin When Marcos Jr. Sought Palace’s Support in 2022
SANDRO MARCOS – The House Majority Leader revealed the alleged conditions of the Duterte admin when his father sought Malacañang’s support for his presidential bid in 2022.
In 2024, the Filipino people witnessed the falling out of the ties between Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. They were running mates in the 2022 Elections and her resignation from being the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) as well as leaving the Marcos Cabinet posed a huge question.
Duterte claimed that her decision to resign from being the DepEd secretary stemmed from both personal and work issues. Since then, the public witnessed the Vice President remarks’ against the government and the administration.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she has no problem with Pres. Bongbong Marcos as a person and her issue is with regard to his being a president. She criticized the path that the country is allegedly taking under the Marcos Jr. leadership.
“Wala kaming away ni BBM. Wala akong problema sa kanya bilang tao. May problema ako sa kanya bilang presidente dahil he’s a weak leader and the country is in chaos,” Duterte said.
Amid the gap between Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos aligned herself with the Dutertes. She even previously claimed that Marcos Jr. allegedly uses illegal drugs — to which presidential son and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos had reacted. According to the younger Marcos, there was allegedly no act of a real sibling on what his aunt did.
Recently, Cong. Sandro Marcos claimed that he expected the falling out of the ties between his father, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. During an interview, he expressed his view about “power struggle”
“Part of me kinda saw it coming hindi dahil sa isang tao kundi dahil sa daming iba’t ibang partido sa paligid… Power struggle,” the young Congressman said.
Cong. Sandro Marcos also shared that they allegedly went to Malacañang to seek for the support of the Palace in the 2022 Elections. He jested that Pres. Bongbong Marcos might get mad at him for sharing it.
“I will never forget. This is the first time kinwento ko ‘to. And I don’t know if the President is gonna get mad at me for saying this, andito na tayo. Noong nangangampanya na ang aking tatay tapos hinihingi niya ang suporta ng Malacañang, tinawagan kami. Pinapunta kami sa Malacañang. Pinahintay kami diyan mga dalawang oras kaming nakahintay nakatambay lang dun,”
According to Cong. Sandro Marcos, they were brought to the presidential guest house where they were met with three (3) people instead of then-Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. During the interview, the Presidential Son said that the Palace still had no presidential bet then.
“Hindi ko na lang babanggitin kung sino. We were put in front of three (3) people… There was one person who is a sitting official now at sinabi niya kay Pangulo, ‘Sige suportahan ka namin on the condition that kami ‘yung mamimili ng ES, kami mamimili ng speaker, kami mamimili ng Senate president… Marami silang hiniling,” the Presidential Son said.
Cong. Sandro Marcos further claimed that before they left Malacañang, Pres. Bongbong Marcos looked at him and told him that the only thing left to do with him was to kill him. The young Congressman stressed that “there was a lot of play”.
“I’m sorry, Mr. President. Please don’t get mad at me,” the Presidential son said.
As a congressman, Cong. Sandro Marcos pushed for the “no work, no pay” scheme for House members.
