Palace Sends Strong Assurance to Sara Duterte Amid Her Safety Concerns
SARA DUTERTE – Malacañang has stepped in to assure Vice President Sara Duterte that the police will not be used to harm her, following her alarming statements about feeling unsafe.
Malacañang has assured Vice President Sara Duterte that she will not be harmed by the police amid concerns she raised regarding her safety and trust in law enforcement.
The Palace issued the assurance on Sunday, September 6, a day after Duterte appeared before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) on Saturday, September 5, to post bail for three counts of grave threats filed against her involving President Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Palace press officer Claire Castro emphasized that the administration does not support the use of the police force for violence against anyone.
“We wish to remind everyone that this administration will not allow the police force to be used as a weapon in any form of violence,” Castro said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. also assured Duterte that the police would address her security concerns and continue monitoring possible threats against her and her family.
Malacañang clarified that the PNP is simply carrying out its mandate under the law, “without bias and without any political considerations.”
“They remain professional in protecting the rights of all people under their care,” the Palace added, stating that it “has full confidence in the PNP leadership and its ranks.”
The Palace also urged Duterte to raise any complaints against police officers through proper legal channels instead of making what it described as “baseless allegations.”
During her court appearance, however, Duterte openly expressed doubts about the police, the court, and even her assigned security team.
“I do not feel safe, I really do not feel safe. I don’t trust the court, I don’t trust the police,” he said, hesitating to enter the Quezon City Hall of Justice.
Duterte said she had felt unsafe since 2023 and accused unnamed authorities of allegedly harassing her family.
Despite her concerns, Nartatez reiterated that the PNP remains prepared to protect every Filipino.
“Rebuilding trust is a continuous process of demonstrating our integrity through our actions,” he said.
The PNP said it has yet to identify any verified threat against Duterte or her family. However, concerned units have been instructed to continue assessing the situation.
Police also encouraged Duterte or her representatives to submit documents or reports regarding the alleged threats so authorities can properly verify and evaluate them.
