Sugar Mercado Clears the Air on Long-Running Issues About Her and the SexBomb Girls

Dancer and comedian Sugar Mercado has finally addressed the rumors that have followed her for years, including the claim that she does not want to be called a member of the SexBomb Girls. She spoke about the issues during her guesting on GTV’s Chika Cart on Wednesday, November 4, before hosts Baninay Bautista, Donita Nose and Jeff Fernando, GMA Entertainment reported.

According to Sugar, it is not true that she wants to distance herself from the group that launched her career. “Hindi naman ayaw matawag, siyempre, doon ako nag-start,” she explained. She said she simply asked group leader Rochelle Pangilinan if she could use the shortened name “SBG” when promoting their concerts because of her faith, and Rochelle respected that request.

“Sobrang blessed ko na makasama ko ulit sila ate,” she added, referring to her fellow members.

Sugar also tackled the old story that a rift formed between her and the group when the SexBomb Girls left a noontime show while she stayed behind. She insisted she was never the reason the others were gone. She said her contract had ended and she was offered a new one as a main co-host with a much bigger salary, which she accepted to help her parents and family, as KAMI.com.ph also noted.

She shared that members Aira and Jopay had told her directly that she was not the cause of their exit, and that the issue only grew because she was the one who remained. Sugar stressed that there is no bad blood between them, pointing out that some of the members even became godmothers to her child.

She admitted she chose to stay quiet for a long time because she felt no need to explain herself. “Kaso, dalawang dekada bago ko na-explain,” she joked. Sugar, the Stars on the Floor Season 2 winner, has also rejoined the group for their reunion concerts.

“Ang importante po ay lumabas po yung talagang totoo,” she said, expressing belief that the truth always comes out and that old wounds heal in time.

After two decades of speculation, Sugar’s side of the story is finally out, and it is one of friendship rather than feud.
