Teen Girl Dies After Electrocution & Fall Into Floodwaters in Bulacan
A teen girl lost her life after being electrocuted and falling into deep floodwaters in Barangay San Miguel, Calumpit, Bulacan.
According to the initial investigation by authorities, the 17-year-old girl was trying to return to their flooded home to get some belongings that their family planned to bring to an evacuation center.
Like many residents in the area, she had to cross floodwaters using a wooden plank that served as a temporary bridge. Her family said the young girl was carefully making her way across the flooded area when she suddenly slipped.
During the accident, the teen girl reportedly grabbed a hanging electrical wire for support. The contact with the live wire caused her to be electrocuted before she fell into the floodwaters.
The incident quickly alarmed nearby residents and family members. Her father immediately rushed to rescue her and brought her to a hospital in the hope of saving her life. Despite his efforts and the emergency response that followed, the teenager was declared dead before she could receive further treatment.
The family was left devastated since the victim had only been trying to retrieve important items from their home. Her mother expressed grief over the incident and pointed to the low-hanging electrical wires in their community as a possible factor that contributed to the accident.
Reports said the barangay captain declined to give a statement regarding the incident.
Calumpit is among the areas in Bulacan that experienced severe flooding in recent days. Continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, combined with the effects of high tide, caused water levels to rise in several communities, forcing many families to evacuate their homes and seek shelter in evacuation centers.
