Vilma Santos asserts that running for senator in 2028 is not in her plans
Batangas Governor and veteran actress Vilma Santos-Recto asserted that she has no plans to enter national politics in 2028, despite rumors suggesting a possible run for the Senate.
The Star for All Seasons returned to the political arena in 2025 when she ran for governor in Batangas with his son, Kapamilya host Luis Manzano, as her running mate.
Vilma was triumphant, but Luis was not. With this, the veteran actress once again served the people of Batangas.
Rumors have been circulating that the actress-politician might consider running for a national position in 2028.
Based on the article in Abante TNT, in an exclusive report by Tine Matro for the Bilyonaryo News Channel (BNC) program “Agenda,” the network interviewed Vilma Santos at the recent 42nd PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
During the exchange, she addressed a question from netizens regarding the possibility of another Recto serving in the Senate. The Star for All Seasons gave a firm “no.”
“No! No! No plans in politics. I just wanna finish being the mother of the province of Batangas,” Vilma stressed.
Meanwhile, the veteran actress also stated that she is not yet stopping her acting career. Vilma, fondly called Ate Vi in the entertainment industry, is one of the most admired actresses. Some fans are even pushing that she would be a national artist already.
“Non-stop learning and non-stop dreaming. Malaki pa rin ang utang na loob ko sa industriya ng pelikula,” the actress-politician said.
Previously, Vilma Santos was accused of corruption, together with her husband, Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto. She said in a previous interview that they were somehow affected by the negativity thrown at them. However, she stressed that they are clinging to their integrity amid the corruption accusations.
